Guidelines for the Physiotherapy Management of the Adult, Medical, Spontaneously Breathing Patient |
|
At last…… ‘Guidelines for the Physiotherapy Management of the Adult, Medical, Spontaneously Breathing Patient’ are published!
Julia Bott, president ACPRC, chair and on behalf of, the Guideline Development Group
These are exciting times!!! These guidelines are both to justify and guide our clinical practice and are about to be published in the May edition of Thorax, which will have a significant impact on patient care, since this journal goes to virtually every medical respiratory consultant in the country, as well as a significant number of physiotherapists. Highlights of the guideline will be presented at this year’s CSP Congress.
The printed version will be in Thorax 2009;64 (suppl 1): i1-i51 and will contain the full document (the recommendations plus the rationale and all the references, as well as a historical background and details of the development process), plus 3 appendices see Appendices below). A concise version (summaries and recommendations only) will be winging its way to all ACPRC members shortly. The full guidelines are now available on-line here.
The concise version is also now available on the BTS website, as are additional downloadable appendices (see Web Appendices below), mainly patient information leaflets on the possible physiotherapy input for each condition. ACPRC are now proposing to complete the task of patient information leaflets and tackle individual leaflets for every treatment modality. Many of you have already registered interest in helping via iCSP. We will be in touch shortly.
