This presentation will explore the role of exercise training and physical activity in managing patients with lung cancer and those undergoing thoracic surgery. It will highlight recent research on exercise intolerance, functional decline, and post-operative complications, examining evidence supporting physiotherapy interventions. A key focus will be Professor Granger's recent JAMA Network Open study on home-based exercise after lung cancer resection. The current evidence base for lung cancer and thoracic surgery will be reviewed, offering insights into best practices for exercise-based interventions. The presentation will also discuss future directions for research and physiotherapy practice, aiming to improve outcomes through evidence-based exercise strategies across the continuum of care.
