Lunchtime Webinar: Respiratory physiotherapy for the ventilated patient

New lunchtime webinar series throughout the year

In this session, we describe our ventilated population and some of the considerations for treatment. Airway clearance techniques will be outlined, along with their supporting evidence. These will include suctioning, positioning, ventilator/manual hyperinflations, manual techniques and manual insufflation-exsufflation (MI-E). Considerations for use will be discussed, along with their contra-indications or precautions. This session is aimed at those who have some experience of treating ventilated patients and wish to refresh or update their knowledge on the justification for respiratory physiotherapy practice.

Dr Ema Swingwood is a consultant physiotherapist based in Bristol. Her expertise encompasses ventilation, weaning and airway clearance. Ema is a visiting lecturer in physiotherapy at the University of the West of England. Her doctoral work focused on the use of MI-E in intensive care.
