Dr Rosalba Courtney’s Integrative Breathing Therapy programme is designed to fine tune your breathing therapy practice to better assess and treat dysfunctional breathing. Believed to be the most comprehensive breathing therapy course available, it is about mastering the science and practical skills of breathing therapy/retraining.

Confused about 'optimal', 'normal', 'functional' and 'dysfunctional' breathing?

By the end of this course, you will clearly know the difference between each one, and more importantly, you'll be able to assess your patient's breathing and apply the most appropriate breathing therapy.

This 6 month course is online beginning 25 February 2025, delivered in weekly sessions, including weekly 90 minute Zoom tutorials. This is followed by 5 months of mentoring as you implement the practices.

You will learn how to apply and interpret the results of assessment tools that address the biochemical, biomechanical and psychophysiological dimensions of breathing.

These include:

·      validated questionnaires (including the SEBQ, the NQ)

·      breathing pattern assessment (the MARM, Hi Lo)

·      physiological measures (capnometry, heart rate variability, breath hold time)

·      upper airway assessment, and

·      specific breathing challenges.

You will understand how and when to utilise techniques such as:

·      capnometry

·      Heart Rate Variability biofeedback

·      the Butyeko breathing technique

·      mindful-breath and movement

·      resistance training breathing

·      dynamic breathing

·      Intermittent Hypoxic Training

·      Resonance Frequency Breathing

You will learn how to work with clinical protocols developed by Dr. Courtney such as Integrative Nasal Rehabilitation, Cranial Breathing, The Breathing Basics and other components of Functional Breathing Retraining.

One therapy does not fit all patients!

A key aspect of this program is an additional 5 months mentoring and clinical application from Dr Courtney to ensure you have plenty of practice assessing and treating dysfunctional breathing.

Learn this and much more by applying for one of six specially 50% discounted scholarships for UK therapists by 8 December 2024 (usual price US$4,900, four spaces available at just £2000).

Apply for selection by emailing michael.courtney9@gmail.com  before 8 December 2024 outlining the following:

 1) Your current experience (e.g. grade, place of work, what proportion of your workload is dedicated to breathing pattern dysfunction) and any current qualifications you have in breathing pattern training,

2) How will you use the knowledge you gain from the IBT course clinically,

3) How you will be able to share this new knowledge to assist other physiotherapists practice.

Testimonial:

Rosalba Courtney’s Integrative Breathing Training course is one of the best I have participated in.

The course is both evidence-based and practical, and caters specifically to clinicians.

Rosalba presents a thorough review of the scientific literature regarding dysfunctional breathing, and her 3-dimensional approach ties together this body of research, and integrates her own.

Rosalba is able to distil a large volume of complex information into a comprehensive and practical approach to assessing and treating dysfunctional breathing, that I was able to use with patients right away.

I really appreciated Rosalba’s deep understanding of the literature as well as her decades of practical experience working with people with dysfunctional breathing.

Her IBT approach, which integrates the biochemical, biomechanical, and psychophysiological aspects of breathing is a truly ‘biopsychosocial’ approach to care, and I finished the course with a clear understanding of how to assess and treating breathing dysfunction with multi-factorial origins.

I really appreciated being able to learn from the other clinicians enrolled in the course – other physiotherapists, osteopaths, orofacial clinicians, and speech pathologist.
